And the doldrums in between revealed how customers have acquired to delay for the reductions they know will come.“The days that the American customer gets excited about 25 % off are over,” said C. Top general orders commanders to improve coordination with Pakistan; correct maps of border
WASHINGTON — Military representatives have not established out disciplinary measures due to the cross-border assault that murdered 24 Pakistani troops, but no one has been tried currently, the Government said Wednesday. An research into the occurrence established that a chronic insufficient have confidence in between the U.S. and Pakistan, and a sequence of marketing and sales communications and sychronisation mistakes on both factors, led to the problems.Navy Capt. Bob Kirby, a Government spokesperson, said military management will use one more review on the research to figure out if anyone should be tried. Those judgements, he said, would be created by authorities in the cycle of control, based on whether they discovered that faults were created by U.S. or NATO employees. As as a outcome of the probe, the top U.S. common for the Center Eastern released a collection of changes Wednesday he said must be created to keep identical faults from developing.U.S. Sea Gen. And he purchased commanders to discuss military methods and techniques with the Pakistanis so they can better comprehend U.S. functions. It’s not certain the new order placed will fix the problems, because Pakistan refused to sign up in the research. It still is not clear why Pakistani troops at first shot on U.S. troops who had arrived by chopper near a town near to the boundary as part of a objective to go after insurgents. The U.S. research discovered that the Pakistani makes shot first and that U.S. troops were in self-defense. But U.S. initiatives to figure out if there were Pakistani makes in the place were foiled by bad charts, inadequate sychronisation and Islamabad’s malfunction to offer the places of its boundary content. The research, going by Brig. Gen. Gen. Athar Abbas has refused the U.S. review and was adamant that Pakistani makes retaliated only after coalition choppers “started wedding.” And he declined that Pakistan never advise NATO of the place of the two boundary content that were assaulted.Pakistani representatives have said the review is unlikely to maintenance the greatly broken connection between the two nations around the world. In reaction to the occurrence, Pakistan turn down key boundary offer tracks for the Afghanistan war and used the U.S. out of its Shamsi air platform in north western Baluchistan state. The platform was used to sustain drones used in hits against insurgents covering in secure havens in Pakistan’s lawless boundary place.Pakistan has shut the boundary on at least two other instances after arguments with the U.S. but reopened the offer tracks after less than two months. National representatives have recognized the closures are likely to go more time this time.

The Writing and Direction
"Crowe takes a lot of heat for his portrayal of adorable kids, and already there's been a lot of online grousing about the Rosie character being a female variant on the aggressively lovable Jonathan Lipnicki in Crowe's 'Jerry Maguire.' What Crowe doesn't get enough credit for is his continuing insight into and empathy with teen characters, and one of the really engaging things about 'Zoo' is how conscious it is in showing the thread between characters who shared an adolescence together and how that contributes to the hard-earned wisdom of characters trying to bridge generational misunderstanding. Which is to say that the scenes between Damon and Ford are among the best-written and best-played scenes in the film." — Glenn Kenny, MSN Classic Short Ugg Boots

Anobit to the rescue
That's where Anobit and its technology come in. Anobit has developed unique technologies that can increase the reliability of multi-level cell designs. In fact, Apple already uses an Anobit-designed DSP chip in iPhones, iPads, and MacBook Airs to extend the life of the NAND flash chips in those devices.Anobit—like Apple's other recent silicon design acquisitions, PA Semi and Intrinsity—is a fabless design house. Its specialty is creating, testing, and verifying new designs that implement its technological innovations, and then licensing the designs to companies like Apple. By buying up Anobit, Apple can keep its flash storage improvement technologies all to itself as a competitive advantage.Still, Apple will have to hire contract fabs or other manufacturers to build chips using the improved designs. Given the headaches that Samsung, Apple's top chip supplier, has caused Apple in the smartphone marketplace, the Anobit acquisition is perhaps another sign that Apple is prepared to drop Samsung altogether and move production of in-house designed custom silicon to someone like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. UGG Classic Cardy BootsFurthermore, building an R&D center in Israel will put Apple among other top tech giants that have located research centers near "Technion," or Israel's Institute of Technology. That will also put Apple's silicon design team in close proximity to partners like Intel and Qualcomm. The basic hardware of the iPhone isn't hard to replicate—an ARM-based processor, NAND flash, Qualcomm baseband, a touch screen, and a handful of largely off-the-shelf parts are fairly easy to come by these days. But highly optimized designs for efficient, low-power operation and long-term reliability don't come cheap. With Apple able to leverage its own in-house expertise and contracting out production in the kind of volume that Apple sees with the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Air, it can afford to integrate those optimizations into its products while still maintaining market-competitive prices and market-leading profits.

Rick Perry stresses values on Iowa bus tour kick-off
Rick Perry began his campaign for redemption by stressing his appeal to Iowa’s evangelical Christians.Perry, an evangelical Christian himself, has often brought his religion into the public sphere, including a full-day prayer rally at a Texas stadium two weeks before entering the presidential race. He launched his campaign, though, with a message of job creation and vigorous attacks on Mitt Romney and Barack Obama.Yet with just under three weeks to go before the Iowa caucuses and the evangelical vote that buoyed Mike Huckabee’s win here four years ago still up for grabs, Perry kicked off his 14-day, 44-city bus tour with a speech that invoked the importance of “values” nine times in 20 minutes. “I’m going to Washington D.C. to save this country and put the values back into the White House. Faith, family and freedom. UGG Classic Short That’s what this election’s really about,” Perry told the crowd of about 70 at the Bayliss Park Hall, to drowning applause. The Texas governor’s campaign is betting on their candidate’s retail strength and financial advantage to make the difference in what’s a last-ditch effort to get back his spot at the top of the polls — with a barnstorming tour through the state that will stress values along with revamping the tax code and instituting a part-time Congress. “This president has not only had a war on our economy. This president’s also had a war on our values,” Perry told the crowd there, and again at the last stop of the day in Denison. “He stopped funding for Catholic Charities, simply because they won’t perform abortions. Their values are important to me.”“This Justice Department is trying to impact long-standing law that basically says whether or not a church can hire or fire a minister or their staff, because of their values,” he continued. “That’s a war on values. That is a war on religion. And Americans are not going to accept this assault on their values anymore.”Perry’s already launched two television ads that stress his faith, including a controversial spot where he complains that “gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.”

Retro meets the rock star
Chic can't be taught. You've either got it or you haven't. If you had to qualify it, you might say it is individuality layered over classic references. But above all, it's an expression of self-confidence. Sally Bloomfield is the epitome of its innateness and the designer, former magazine design editor and social doyenne of the Victorian capital since the 1980s has stamped her southern style on an old Toorak Road motel to produce a place where resting your head is as fashionable a pastime as a stroll down Flinders Lane.A little bit rock'n'roll, a smidgen Parisian, a whole heap funky and a big helping of comfortable, the Albany and Bloomfield are two sides of the same coin, conjoined hotels offering both a budget and a more boutique experience through the one reception area. UGG Argyle Knit BootsEach, however, is amazing value for money. You'd expect to pay a lot more than you do for some of the Bloomfield's big, unique rooms. Be warned, however - some of the services you might expect to go with such loveliness are not necessarily on offer here.Just don't come to the Bloomfield expecting InterContinental service and everything will work out fine.As soon as you enter, you get the idea of what sort of a place this is. A huge portrait of a strutting, eye-shadow-wearing 1970s Mick Jagger in a baby-blue jumpsuit greets you, as do classic 1950s cane chairs upholstered in red and piped in white, and other cheery touches such as bowls of fresh fruit and vases of flowers.Exposed plumbing pipes and original chipped tiles give a deliberately deconstructed edge to things: the message is this is not your schmick five-star experience. It's shabby chic meets rock-star glam meets French boarding house and if you like your hotel experiences a little bit eccentric, certainly character-filled, then the Albany and Bloomfield are worth consideration. Most days you'll even find stylish Bloomfield and her adorable children having a meal or, as we did one night, having a small impromptu disco in the restaurant. How very European. The Albany is a classic 1960s motel with a parking lot out the front with three floors of small, stylishly fitted-out rooms opening on to a covered outdoor walkway. You've seen the layout at a million drive-in inns around the world. Bloomfield has worked with the era's style, rather than trying to disguise it. The result is a Get Smart grooviness combined with great workability and comfort. UGG Classic Short The Bloomfield is a collection of bespoke spaces housed in a Victorian mansion looking out to Fawkner Park, one of the prettiest green spaces in the city. The properties were once under the one banner of the Albany but Sally decided to split them off, so clients know exactly which experience they are booking. The motel rooms are small and functional but comfort and style are not forsaken. Quirky touches like wooden floors and squishy throw cushions add warmth to the white spaces.Like their more grown-up cousins in the Bloomfield, the rooms boast five-star comfort-level beds with crisp, fine linen and excellent quality pillows. It's in the Bloomfield that you start to feel like you might be one of Andy Warhol's entourage at the Chelsea in New York. Dimly lit hallways in black and red are papered with classic photo portraits of 1970s and '80s rock stars, models, artists and other fashionable types. The motif continues inside the mansion suites, where some have bedheads plastered with black and white photo montages. Good for what ails you
JOHN SLOANE, for 50 years the postman and postmaster at Millthorpe in the central west, tells the story of his great-great-grandfather, Samuel Sloane, an Irish convict banished to Australia in 1825. Samuel Sloane's first job after earning his freedom was as a shepherd outside nearby Stuart Town. But, in 1850, when John Lister discovered gold at sites near Bathurst and began the great rush that was to transform the region and the nation, Sloane sought his fortune with shovel and sieve. Now, 160 years later, gold is again sparking Millthorpe to life. Standing at Lister's grave in the town's cemetery, it's worth pondering what happened in between."It was a vibrant place right up to the 1960s," Sloane recalls from behind the counter at the post office, a few doors from our beautifully restored lodgings, Hockeys, which served as the village pharmacy, a bric-a-brac shop and a doctor's surgery in previous incarnations."Trains were coming through, taking spuds and peas to Sydney. There was a flour mill, a butcher's, the old Bank of NSW, a stand-alone newsagent, three busy pubs ... But by the '60s and '70s, it all started closing and people were leaving."The heritage facades of Millthorpe remain. It is, however, modernity that's reviving the town. New technology has uncovered fresh gold reserves nearby and the Cadia Mine is ushering in a new wave of residents, money and tourism."If you don't grow, you die," 72-year-old Sloane says.Hockeys is the perfect metaphor for Millthorpe.Owners Belinda and Stephen Satterthwaite, who were originally from Broken Hill, spent years adding modern comforts to the little freestanding house while ingeniously maintaining the historic integrity that makes this accommodation unique. UGG Classic Tall 5815White walls allow rustic furniture to shine, topped off with curiosities, found objects and trinkets, such as a set of old scales placed next to the flat-screen TV-DVD player. An old-style dispensary cabinet filled with tins and bottles of glycerine, Nyal Figsen, Goanna Australian Bush Remedy and old English cigarettes is placed near a microwave, kettle and toaster.Stephen, who works at the mine, has added further atmosphere-appropriate pieces, such as a window frame filled with bullet hole-ridden pieces of aluminium, which hangs in the bedroom. The theme is historical but nothing of comfort is surrendered. The bathroom floor is heated, so getting out of the huge spa is easy on the feet. The bathrobes are thick and the reverse-cycle airconditioning in the living room warms the house quickly, despite the high ceilings. The garden at Hockeys is cute: as well as a barbecue, there are sculptures and ornaments scattered about. This is not a five-star self-contained property but it is charming and filled with character - just like the town.Upon arrival, we are welcomed with a bottle of delicious locally made Angullong cabernet merlot and a cheese platter. There is boutique muesli, juice, tea, ground coffee, gingerbread men, lots of fruit, chocolates, nuts, local jams, yoghurt and a breakfast hamper. The town, nestled between Bathurst and Orange, features the renowned Tonic restaurant, galleries, a lolly shop and the region's best museum, which exhibits an extraordinary history that had a golden beginning and is glittering once again.

Pick of the punnet
Somewhere on the pleasant drive from Sydney to the Southern Highlands we slip through a gap in the space-time continuum, inadvertently travelling back 50 years. How else can one explain the quaintly old-fashioned atmosphere that envelopes our every move during our stay at Montrose Berry Farm? The minute we arrive, the kids seem magically to forget about computer games, TV, Justin Bieber and other paraphernalia of modern life. Instead they happily play traditional board games with us, read, swim in the dam and hoot around the farm on their bikes.Meanwhile, Mrs G and I take walks around the property, play a guitar, chat or simply sit on the lawn under a magnificent willow tree with a cup of tea or a glass of local wine. UGG Classic Cardy BootsWe've turned into the Von Trapps. Any minute, I'm expecting Mrs G to burst into The Hills Are Alive or the kids to reprise So Long, Farewell at bedtime. On arrival, we are given an appropriately old-fashioned and generous welcome from host and owner Fiona Robertson. In rapid order we learn the princesses are welcome to use the trampoline by the back door whenever they wish, the farm dog, Pip, will be a "friend for life" if we throw a stick for him and Robertson's daughter will be back from camp shortly and keen to show the new girls around. I rather crassly mention the money that we still owe for the accommodation, only to be dismissed with a brisk, "Oh, that's fine. There's plenty of time for that." We almost feel like house guests rather than the paying variety. Our cottage is adjacent to the main farmhouse. Tucked behind a trellised grape vine, it has evidently been well renovated but still retains a cosy atmosphere, making us feel like the mice from Brambly Hedge, who are depicted in a print on the wall. There are two double bedrooms, a bathroom, a laundry and a combined kitchen-dining-lounge room with a large open fireplace that would surely be welcome in winter. On the coffee table are a saucer of lollies and a small decanter of whisky. Cheap Ugg BootsIn the fridge we find what is described on the website as a "generous" breakfast basket. In fact, there are enough sausages, eggs and other breakfast goods to feed a medium-sized army on the march. Generous doesn't even begin to describe it.The kids tear off to explore and Mrs G and I take a stroll around the stunning gardens, which are to be our domain for the weekend, and then up the hill to inspect the berry fields.Montrose grows blueberries, raspberries, loganberries, blackberries, red and blackcurrants, cherries and hazelnuts and runs a pick-your-own operation, as well as selling berry products including pies and preserves. However, the only berries in season during our visit are blackberries.Whenever I think of my younger days in South Yorkshire they always taste of blackberries. Our garden was hedged by blackberries and barely a meal went by without a blackberry-and-apple pie or crumble appearing. UGG Classic Tall 5815Though blackberries are much maligned in Australia as an invasive pest, it is wonderful to spend an hour with the princesses picking the fat glossy berries, eating almost as many straight off the bush as we put in the punnet.Tempted as I am to spend the weekend lolling around eating blackberries and doing precious little else, I'm determined to do some exercise.Nearby Bundanoon bills itself as the gateway to Morton National Park, so I head off on my own in search of running trails. It's late afternoon when I head into the park and the atmosphere is strangely still with the threat of a storm.Perhaps because of the brooding weather or maybe because of the late hour, I appear to have the entire park to myself. The next hour or so is magical. The fire-trails and tracks make for great running and the views from the lookouts are astonishing. After that we take my thirst and the princesses off to the Sutton Forest Inn, a couple of kilometres from the farm, for a sundowner. The place is comfortable and friendly - the way country pubs should be - and the young barman obligingly digs out a set of bowls from the shed so we can entertain ourselves on the slightly decrepit bowling green out the back. Somewhat wistfully, we take our leave of Montrose on Sunday afternoon to begin our re-entry into the 21st century. It's probably not before time - I'd begun to notice Mrs G eyeing up the cottage curtains.

Hormone improves stroke recovery
A hormone that is associated with growth has facilitated recovery during the later phases of rehabilitation after a stroke, scientists say.Insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) is a hormone that is found in the blood and contributes to, among other things, growth and bone mass. This hormone is found in higher levels among people who exercise regularly and those with good health. Scientists at the Sahlgrenska Academy, Sweden, have shown for the first time that similar levels are also associated with better long-term recovery after a stroke."This study is interesting for two reasons. UGG Boots OutletThe first is that we show that a hormone is associated with improved long-term recovery, and thus there is still the prospect of improvement - even after three months after the stroke," says David Aberg, associate professor at Sahlgrenska."The second is that levels of this hormone are known to be elevated in those who exercise often", adds Aberg, who led the study with Prof Jorgen Isgaard, reports the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism."It is, however, important to add that the levels of IGF-I are controlled also by other factors, such as other growth hormones, heredity and nutrition," Åberg said, according to a Sahlgrenska statement. The study is based on a study at the Sahlgrenska Academy, in which people 407 stroke victims between 18-70 years are followed up for two years after the event.Scientists have measured the levels of IFG-I in these 407 patients and seen that increased levels are associated with better recovery, when the degree of recovery is determined between three and 24 months after the stroke.

Weight loss improves memory and concentration
Kent State University`s researchers have discovered that weight loss help improve memory and concentration.Their study has shown that bariatric surgery patients exhibited improved memory function 12 weeks after their operations. The research team studied 150 participants (109 bariatric surgery patients and 41 obese control subjects) at Cornell Medical College and Weill Columbia University Medical Center, both in New York City, and the Neuropsychiatric Research Institute in Fargo, N.D.The researchers discovered that bariatric surgery patients demonstrated improved memory and concentration 12 weeks after surgery, improving from the slightly impaired range to the normal range." UGG Classic Short The primary motivation for looking at surgery patients is that we know they lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time, so it was a good group to study," said John Gunstad, an associate professor in the University`s Department of Psychology."This is the first evidence to show that by going through this surgery, individuals might improve their memory, concentration and problem solving," he said. The findings will be published in an upcoming issue of Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases.

Back-room climate negotiations begin
Back-room negotiations have begun in earnest on a deal to rescue the only treaty governing greenhouse gas reductions and to launch talks on a broader agreement to include the world's largest polluters.Key players laid out their opening positions on Monday at UN climate talks in South Africa, and were beginning a round of private meetings to probe each other's meanings and intentions - which remained murky.Meanwhile, South African authorities said they were deporting three activists from the Greenpeace environmental group after they were arrested trying to drape a protest banner from the rooftop of a beachfront hotel. The activists from Australia, Germany and Denmark pleaded guilty to trespassing in a court hearing, the Home Affairs Department said.As the 194-nation conference moved into its decisive week, negotiators were feeling the pressure of a looming deadline: the expiry in 12 months of commitments by industrial countries to reduce climate-changing carbon emissions. UGG Classic Mini 5854 The European Union is championing a deal to get all major countries to agree to binding pollution targets in the future as its condition for renewing its commitments under the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. It wants an agreement now to begin negotiations on a new all-encompassing treaty that would conclude by 2015 and take effect five years later."We do not need more thinking, we need more action," said Connie Hedegaard, the European commissioner on climate action. The linchpins of such a deal are China and the United States - and both set hard conditions.During the first week of the conference, attention honed in on China, and whether it was signalling new flexibility or reframing known positions. After a private meeting with the Chinese, the Europeans walked away disappointed, an EU delegate said.Despite public declarations it would participate in a legally binding agreement in the future, China unequivocally told the EU it would not accept binding targets for itself, the delegate said.Earlier, China's top climate negotiator Xie Zenhua, in his first meeting with reporters, said China wanted to ensure all previous commitments by the industrial countries were met before entering into the next phase. If that happened, he said, China could discuss a post-2020 deal."The framework, I think, should be a legally binding one, or some documents to that effect."But Xie set several "preconditions," including an extension of the Kyoto commitments for industrial countries, honouring commitments on immediate and long-term financial aid to poor countries, and delivery on promises of new technologies to develop low-carbon economies.US envoy Todd Stern said the United States had no objection to a post-2020 treaty, as long as it treated everyone the same.Countries must accept "obligations and commitments that have the same legal force," Stern said. But he did not believe that China and others were prepared to unconditionally accept legal parity with everyone else.Stern said any future agreement should revise the division of countries into two distinct groups, industrial and developing, as they were defined in the basic 1992 climate convention."It just doesn't make any sense. The world has changed dramatically since 1992," he said.Canadian Environment Minister Peter Kent affirmed Ottawa will not sign on to another round of emissions reductions commitments under the Kyoto Protocol - regardless of any new stand by China.Canada, Japan and Russia all announced last year their rejection of Kyoto's second commitment period, starting in 2013.The signals from Beijing could be an important development, and Canada was waiting to hear more details, Kent said. Nonetheless, "that would not change our position."He made no announcement regarding earlier reports that Canada would formally withdraw from Kyoto by the end of the year.If it did so, it would be the second signatory to renounce the accord. The first was the United States in 2001.

Smell something fishy?
RESTAURANTS around the world will soon use new DNA technology to assure patrons they are being served the genuine fish fillet or caviar they ordered, rather than inferior substitutes, an expert in genetic identification says.In October, the United States Food and Drug Administration officially approved so-called DNA barcoding - a standardised fingerprint that can identify a species like a supermarket scanner reads a barcode - to prevent the mislabelling of both locally produced and imported seafood in the US.Other national regulators around the world are also considering adopting DNA barcoding as a fast, reliable and cost-effective tool for identifying organic matter.David Schindel, a Smithsonian Institution paleontologist and executive secretary of the Washington-based Consortium For The Barcode Of Life, said he has started discussions with the restaurant industry and seafood suppliers about utilising the technology as a means of certifying the authenticity of delicacies."When they sell something that's really expensive, they want the consumer to believe that they're getting what they're paying for," Schindel told AP. "We're going to start seeing a self-regulating movement by the high-end trade embracing barcoding as a mark of quality."While it would never be economically viable to DNA test every fish, it would be possible to test a sample of several fish from a trawler load, he said.Schindel is organiser of the biennial International Barcode of Life Conference, which is being held on Monday in the southern Australian city of Adelaide. Bailey Button Ugg Boots The fourth in the conference series brings together 450 experts in the field to discuss new and increasingly diverse applications for the science.Applications range from discovering what Australia's herd of 1 million feral camels feeds on in the Outback, to uncovering fraud in Malaysia's herbal drug industry.Schindel leads a consortium of scientists from almost 50 nations in overseeing the compilation of a global reference library for the Earth's 1.8 million known species. The Barcode Of Life Database so far includes more than 167,000 species.Mislabelling is widespread in the seafood industry and usually involves cheaper types of fish being sold as more expensive varieties. A pair of New York high school students using DNA barcoding of food stocked in their own kitchens found in a 2009 study that caviar labelled as sturgeon was actually Mississippi paddlefish. In a published study a year earlier, another two students from the high school found that one-fourth of fish samples they had collected around New York were incorrectly labelled as higher-priced fish.Mislabelling of fish - which account for almost half the world's vertebrate species - also poses risks to human health and the environment. In 2007, several people became seriously ill from eating illegally imported toxic pufferfish from China that had been mislabelled as monkfish to circumvent US import restrictions. Endangered species are also sold as more common fish varieties.

Causes, effects debated
The FDA, which quashed the controversial practice of manufacturers including caffeine in alcoholic drinks such as Four Loko by issuing warning letters to four companies in 2010, has not acted on petitions by academics and other experts to limit caffeine or change labeling requirements for energy drinks. "Those petitions are still within the FDA and still under consideration, and the agency can't comment," said Susan Carlson of the FDA's office of food additive safety. Nationally, emergency room visits associated with energy drink use increased more than tenfold from 1,128 in 2005 to 13,114 in 2009, according to a report released last month by the federal government's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. UGG Boots Outlet Forty-four percent involved combinations with other substances such as alcohol, pharmaceuticals or illicit drugs, which the American Beverage Association said made energy drink consumption "potentially irrelevant." However, more than half of the visits didn't involve another substance. Most adverse reactions involve people who consumed two to eight energy drinks or more than 200 milligrams of caffeine, said Higgins, co-author of the Mayo Clinic report. The exhaustive review of studies on energy beverages by Higgins and Houston exercise physiologist Troy D. Tuttle noted the risk of such effects as insomnia, nervousness, nausea, rapid heartbeat — and in more rare cases, seizures, cardiac arrhythmias and cardiac arrest, particularly in people with underlying medical conditions. The review also cited four documented cases of caffeine-associated deaths involving individuals who had consumed energy drinks. "For a healthy person, probably one is not going to kill you. But we don't know," Higgins said. "I think it's the combination of things in these energy beverages," he added, cautioning about interactions. "A lot of athletes drink coffee."

Wikileaks release over 287 files documenting the reality of the international mass surveillance industry
During a press conference held today in London, Assange said to the audience, "today we release over 287 files documenting the reality of the international mass surveillance industry -- an industry which now sells equipment to dictators and democracies alike in order to intercept entire populations." He continued, "Who here has an iPhone, who has a Blackberry, who uses Gmail? "Well you're all screwed .the reality is that intelligence operations are selling right now mass surveillance systems for all those products". Another panel member, Pratap Chatterjee, Classic Short Ugg Boots highlighted that it was entirely possible for your phone to be used to record and send information about you, including information pertaining to your location even when the handset was in standby mode. The latest release of information marks the first since being forced to halt future publishing of classified documents due to its funding being almost completely blocked off. The site saw its revenues drop by 95 percent as a result of the block. Google and Sonic, a small ISP, were both handed court orders in October demanding the release of information held about several of Wikileaks' supporters. Sonic eventually complied after losing its fight against the order, but Google never responded publicly about whether it complied.

Dalai Lama tweets to Chinese web users
The Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, held his first Internet chat with Chinese web users Friday, in a wide-ranging Rosetta Stone software dialogue touching on politics and his eventual successor. The webcast was seen on the micro-blogging website Twitter and on Internet sites inside China despite Beijing's long-standing efforts to police the web and silence the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize winner on the Chinese mainland. During the 90-minute chat, the Dalai Lama said a decade of negotiations with Beijing on autonomy for Tibet and his eventual return home had failed to move forward because the government refused to acknowledge the problems Tibet faces. Advertisement: Story continues below The lack of progress "is because the central government has all along maintained that there is no problems in Tibet -- there are only problems with the Dalai Lama," he said from New York. China has called the Dalai Lama a "wolf in monk's clothing" and accused him of seeking to split the country, but he has repeatedly said he accepts Beijing's rule and is only seeking "meaningful autonomy" for Tibet. "I personally have no demands -- my main concerns are the problems with Tibetan culture and the religion and environment of the Tibetan people," he told web users. "In some Tibetan areas, because the population of Han Chinese has increased, the Tibetan language and culture are facing a crisis." Two years ago, protests in Tibet's capital Lhasa marking the anniversary of a failed 1959 uprising against Chinese rule escalated into deadly violence, prompting a massive security clampdown in the Rosetta Stone Spain Spanish Himalayan region that is ongoing. The Dalai Lama said Beijing's present course of action in his homeland was "coercive", adding: "They are always laying importance on Tibet's stability -- I think stability comes from the faith within one's own heart." Over ,500 people selected 289 questions for the monk by online voting done on a Google Moderator site, which was blocked in China on Thursday, said Wang Lixiong, a long-time critic of China's policy in Tibet, who helped run the chat. The 74-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader, able to answer only a few questions, elaborated on the coming reincarnation of the 15th Dalai Lama who will take his place after he passes away, in accordance with Buddhist ritual. "In 1969, I made an official statement, that said that in the future if the Dalai Lama line should be continued, this should be decided by the people of Tibet," he said. "In 1992 I made a statement that stressed that if in the future Tibet really got formal administration (of the Tibet region), I would transfer all of my rights to the democratically elected leaders of Tibet." He refused to respond directly when asked whether he feared China's atheist government would control the reincarnation process much like it did in 1995 when picking the boy chosen as the Panchen Lama -- Tibet's second-most revered spiritual leader. "As far as I understand, he (the new Panchen Lama) is very intelligent -- as far as Buddhist scriptures, he is making a lot of effort," the exiled leader said. "But the people have certain suspicions about him, on whether or not his interpretations of Buddhist scriptures will be effective. This is very important and it will depend on he himself." Although Twitter is blocked in China, Chinese users were able to access the chat, as Twitter allows third-party applications and servers to Rosetta Stone English freely use its data both inside and outside China. This has made Twitter largely available in China despite the vast web of government Internet censorship sometimes dubbed the "Great Firewall of China", said Xiao Qiang, who heads the US-based China Digital Times. "The Great Firewall has actually helped the Twitter community to grow in China in a way not seen around the world," he told AFP by telephone. Up to 150,000 Chinese are estimated have Twitter accounts, with as many as 100,000 of them physically living in the mainland, Xiao said. The Dalai Lama joined Twitter, the popular micro-blogging site, earlier this year.

Probably six months before we had any conversation
The sceptics Rosetta Stone Language about the deal with Buckley, which was brokered in July last year, were always going to be looking for signs of discontent, even in their assessment of Malthouse's body language at the press conference announcing the new arrangement. They thought they'd definitely found them this year in a comment from the coach about Buckley having a lot to learn and still being a mile off senior coaching. But, according to Pert, there has remained an obsession with the senior coaching post which continues to overlook the bigger picture at Collingwood, one being framed well before discussions began about the passing of the coaching baton, and one which Malthouse embraced enthusiastically. People have got to understand that in the mix of this, the head coach is a key, but just one part of a program set for the next five years. It's not just about one element, he says. Probably six months before we had any conversation with Mick or 'Bucks', myself and [Collingwood president] Eddie McGuire sat down to talk about what we needed to do over the next five years with the whole program. It actually didn't start as a conversation about Mick or Bucks. It was what does our program look like to maximise our performance during that period. So we've got dates and end points to ourselves as well, and as it all rolls out, and we're in a position to maybe even deliver the Language Learning Software ultimate result, I think all those components are adding up. And the time element I think is a factor. Whether it's conscious or sub-conscious, I think it's been a good thing to help bring the best out of everyone. History looms large for Collingwood this afternoon, and especially for its coach. At the age of 57, Malthouse will become the oldest coach of a premiership side if his Magpies get up. He will join football immortals Ron Barassi and Leigh Matthews as the only men to have been involved in a premiership as a player or coach with three different clubs. And his third flag as a coach will have come no less than 16 years after the second, which says enough about how contemporary his methods have remained over decades, not just years. But what the Malthouse of 10, grey-haired, now a doting grandfather, and very comfortable in his own skin, has most of all after so long, is a sense of perspective. On Tuesday night, in his reflective state, he recalled playing in Richmond's 1980 premiership win alongside Merv Keane, who'd already played in a Tiger flag six years earlier. Malthouse couldn't understand why his teammate's second premiership had meant so much more to him than the first. Keane explained that at 21, he expected to be playing grand finals every year. By the age of , with the end a lot closer, he had a much better appreciation of both the scarcity of such opportunities, and the sacrifices involved. Malthouse said he could only hope that lesson would rub off on his younger players today as they prepared alongside the much more experienced likes of Simon Prestigiacomo or Darren Jolly. The prize at the end of it as a young kid is not nearly as great as it is when you're getting older, he mused. But he could equally have applied that comment to himself. Malthouse's bullet is creeping ever closer. But, incredibly, given what is about to unfold this afternoon, he Learn Arabic is a man at peace. And a Collingwood victory would ensure that when he does take that hit months from now, it will be with a smile on his face wider even than the one we've seen these past few weeks.

Miles moved to Braybrook in the 1950s
It is horrible. I worked and I know what it's like to have money coming in. And I know what it's like to go Rosetta Stone Language to the theatre or the Arts Centre,'' Hardwick says. Three years ago, when her eldest daughter turned 16 and shortly afterwards moved out, the girl's Centrelink payments no longer contributed to the family budget. So Hardwick got her first credit card. ''Food, bills and schooling, that's all,'' she says. ''Sometimes clothing or shoes for the kids.'' Soon the card hit the limit, $5000. ''You wake up in the morning and it's hanging over you. I suffer from depression It is very humiliating. Very. Humiliating. You basically have to bare your soul every time you tell your story.'' But she refuses to bow to it. A debt collector once tried to bully her, but she rebuffed them, and is struggling but managing to find $50 a week to repay the credit card.. As hard as it is, Hardwick is one of the better off, because she is managing it ''in blocks''. ''If you don't look at it in blocks you'd go absolutely nuts. You'd stay awake all Language Learning Software night every night.'' Steve Miles STEVE Miles leans on a shovel surveying the pumpkins and chillis growing in the Braybrook community garden. He is proud of what he helps to grow here. Miles moved to Braybrook in the 1950s when it was still paddocks, and spent his working life, 45 years, in its meatworks and factories. He thought his last job, at metal perforators Richardson-Pacific, would see him through until retirement. He didn't leave the job; it left him when the factory shut down last year. At 60, he is on Newstart, and wife Deb is on a carer's pension because they have three sons with mental disabilities. Including both pensions and the board paid by the children, they receive $94 per fortnight and pay $6rent from that for their public housing. What's left over is precious little for six people, but Steve and Deb Miles have both made use of the one luxury welfare allows - the ability to borrow money, interest free, from Centrelink. Deb used her loan to buy Christmas presents for the children, but her pension is $38 lighter each fortnight until she pays it off. Steve used his to send the youngest son, who is at a special school in South Melbourne, to camp. That costs $50 a fortnight from his allowance. ''I had to get $500 because I never had any money and he wanted to go to camp and it broke me heart, you know?'' Miles still hopes he will get a job as a forklift driver when a huge new Woolworths distribution centre, currently under construction, opens on nearby Ballarat Road. In the meantime, as an older man on Newstart, he is able to avoid the need to repeatedly apply for work if he does his voluntary work in the garden. It's an exemption Gillard is reportedly looking to scrap in her get-tough approach. But for Miles, the volunteer work has other, less tangible rewards. ''I love it there. You sit back and relax and listen to all the birds and the people come in and talk to you and pull out a few weeds and that,'' he says. ''It makes Greek Learning Software me feel good that I'm doing something for the community. And I get praise from everyone that I'm doing a very good job.'' Rose Peterson's and the Hardwick familys' names have been changed.

Khodorkovsky is facing the prospect of an additional lengthy jail term after being found guilty in his second trial the day earlier in a verdict that provoked an angry reaction in the West. ''We expect everyone to mind his own business, both at home and in the international arena,'' it said. ''Attempts to exert pressure on the court are unacceptable. ''Assertions about some kind of selective application of justice in Russia are groundless. Russian courts consider thousands of cases related to entrepreneurs' responsibility towards the law.'' We are extremely frustrated and angry
The United States should not fear engaging Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood as it is crucial to Rosetta Stone Software support people's choices in the Islamic world, Malaysia's opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim says. AFP correspondent Dave Clark, who is coordinating coverage in the Cairo bureau today, did a similar job in Abidjan a few weeks ago, while everyone waited to see whether Ivory Coast?s Laurent Gbagbo would take the hint and step down as president, after elections which the world said were won by his opponent. Gbagbo?s still there, he points out. What will Mubarak do? Hossam Badrawi, secretary general of Egypt's ruling National Democratic Party, is about to resign after just six days in the job, a source close to him tells AFP. An Egyptian protester has died and people have been injured in clashes between police and demonstrators in the north Sinai town of Al-Arish, a security official tells AFP. The unidentified protester was killed in an exchange of gunfire between police and demonstrators who were trying to free detainees from a police station, the official says. Leader of Mubarak's ruling party to step down: source State TV, besieged by cheerful protesters, has adopted a novel form of reality protest show.. The government has lost all credibility. We call them Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves" "We are extremely frustrated and angry." Protesters in Tahrir Square wave banners and shout slogans calling for Mubarak to stand down. The Middle East and the whole world waits to see what will happen in Tahrir Square. Will the crowds disperse as the army has urged? Will people Rosetta Stone Language march to key locations in Cairo such as the state television building or the president's palace? Crowds have already assembled in both places. A dramatic moment. History could be in the making as Friday prayers come to a close in Tahrir Square. The square is completely thronged with people as the time for the mass rallies approaches. Three Egyptian officers shed their weapons and uniforms and join hundreds of thousands of protesters demanding the immediate overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak, witnesses say. "They joined the crowd, smiling, and chanted slogans calling for the fall of the regime," student Omar Gamal tells AFP from Cairo's Tahrir Square, the focal point of the protests. "Thousands of enraged demonstrators are protesting in front of the television building," reports AFP photographer Marco Longari. In Tahrir Square the sheikh leading the prayers faints towards the end of his sermon, but not before he called on the army to "act in a way that will be acceptable to God on judgement day." Egyptian demonstrators react with fury as the military throws its weight behind President Mubarak's attempt to cling on to power despite massive nationwide protests. Protesters outside Mubarak's palace erupt angrily and one grabs an army officer's microphone to denounce the move. "You have disappointed us, all our hopes rested in you," he shouts, as the crowd begin to chant slogans calling for Mubarak to be put on trial. The BBC's Persian television service is being jammed from within Iran following coverage of the mass protests against President Hosni Mubarak's rule in Egypt, the broadcaster says. BBC Persian TV has been working with the BBC's Arabic TV service to broadcast rolling news from Egypt, and the broadcaster believes it is this coverage which has prompted the jamming which began yesterday Friday prayers are under way in Tahrir Square. The communique says the army will not arrest those calling for reform, but warns against any "harm to the safety and security of the nation."

Kuo put more pressure on Fondren
Kuo, meanwhile, was currying favor with Hong, who he hoped would help him land a Rosetta Stone Software project in China. Kuo would later acknowledge his own motivation: "Just pure and simple greed." Then something happened that gave Hong more leverage over Kuo. Around 2002, some Chinese engineers who worked with Kuo on a project in Taiwan were arrested upon their return to China and accused of espionage. Kuo turned to Hong to help get them out of prison. After that, Kuo would say later, Hong got more pushy. "`You go to Washington more often,'" he testified Hong demanded, and the things he wanted were sometimes "very sensitive." And as Hong put more pressure on Kuo, Kuo put more pressure on Fondren, who, as it happened, had returned to work with the U.S. government in 2001. He was based inside the Pentagon as the deputy director of the Pacific Command's Washington liaison office, a position that granted him a "Top Secret" security clearance. Fondren continued to produce opinion papers about such topics as talks between the Department of Defense and China's People's Liberation Army and a joint exercise conducted between the U.S. and Chinese navies. One paper incorporated information from a Department of Defense report classified as "confidential." Fondren also provided various publications, including a draft copy of an annual Defense report on the People's Liberation Army. To help persuade Fondren to keep giving him information, Kuo, at Hong's suggestion, told Rosetta Stone Language him his papers were now going to government officials in Taiwan rather than to Hong. Kuo would use the same approach in wooing a second tipster. The FBI videotape shows the inside of a rental car, with Kuo in the passenger seat. He pulls out a wad of cash and then stuffs the money into the shirt pocket of the driver, Gregg Bergersen, and the two proceed to talk business. "Now, the other information ... I'm very, very, very, very reticent to let you have it because it's all classified ...," Bergersen tells him. "But I will let you see it and you can take all the notes you want. ... But if it ever fell into the wrong hands, and I know it's not going to ... then I would be fired for sure. I'd go to jail, because I violated all the rules." They stop for lunch, and Bergersen hands Kuo a thick document. For an hour Kuo takes notes from the document, which details the quantity, dollar value and names of weapons systems planned for sale by the United States to Taiwan for five years. It was July 14, 2007, and Kuo was on one of his many information-gathering trips to Washington. Bergersen worked as a weapons systems policy analyst at the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, an arm of the Department of Defense that facilitates military sales overseas. His specialty was C4ISR, a sophisticated military command, control and communications network. As one of his many business enterprises, Kuo was pursuing Rosetta Stone Spanish (Spain) contracts with Taiwan related to its version of C4ISR.

Two other issues are important
Little has been written on how to develop a process based on the Rosetta Stone Store logic and method of SenseMaker. I remember being intrigued and increasingly excited by how it might possible be useful. But the details of how to do this, even after attending the course, were murky. Diving in over the past two years has been a fun and insightful but not terribly efficient way of learning how it works and what is needed to make it work. So I ve been developing a short here s what you need to think about set of headlines when I discuss and design with organisations. So far, my experience is that a good design boils down to three elements that need careful thought. And in fact, thinking this through might be a good way to assess if Sensemaker makes sense in the first place. Challenge 1. Open and evaluative question framework. I ve likened developing a signification framework to sumi-e that asks of the artist to strip the object down to a few essential brushstrokes to capture its soul . Getting to the minimum set of question options means letting go of one s survey mentality and linear correlation thinking. Two other issues are important:.Who s in the room? All my applications of SenseMaker are meant to be useful to a range of organisations. So far, limited time and money means I haven t been able to design a framework collectively with the intended audience. So this means solid pre-testing and then fieldtesting with them to get feedback..A really tricky issue when used for evaluation, as compared to more open-ended research, is the tendency to frame questions too blatantly as evaluative. For example, in eastern Africa, one organisation I m working with wanted to ask what made you feel hopeful or discouraged Rosetta Stone Japanese about X programme . In the GlobalGiving work, the third challenge needs more work. How do we make GlobalGiving’s partner organisations curious about what the stories reveal? In the water work, we really have to think hard to get to a feasible and affordable system to ensure stories come in regularly. In the girl’s empowerment application, the client wanted more directly evaluative questions. How do we meet that need and build in space for the open questions that can surprise and trigger innovations? Being involved in so many applications is enriching because of the immediate comparative advantage it offers. But I’m in danger of only seeing nails, now that I am wielding the SenseMaker hammer. So I’ll turn tomorrow to some editing work of 8 case studies on ‘normal’ evaluation practice. And after that a blogpost on a much larger question than that of design – does SenseMaker actually help in complex situations?Quite counter to the abductive reasoning on which SenseMaker is based. We seem to have less gameable questions now that still allow us to come to evaluative insights. Challenge 2. Stories at scale Without lots stories, SenseMaker is a waste of time and money. So getting good story processes to get to enough scale is crucial. The GlobalGiving system works through volunteer scribes who get a minimal reward per story. But for another organization seeking narratives from its partner organizations, the relationships with those organizations become part of the puzzle. You rely on them to find stories and that means they need to be motivated. Or in our water sector application, you need to think of how to motivate water professionals at district and national level to share their experiences on a regular basis. We ve got a range of ideas that we are and will be trying, ranging from straightforward sub-contracting to a research firm to students and junior professionals. Most SenseMaker applications have Rosetta Stone Language been for one-off research projects. I m applying it for ongoing impact-oriented monitoring. So whatever system emerges, it needs to be resilient and efficient and sustained. Challenge 3. The right people and right patterns to make it usefulAny evaluative process, if not used by someone, is pretty useless. Utility is part of the evaluation standards for a reason. So thinking through the learning processes, once stories are collected is crucial. And I m convinced this needs to start early on. For one organisation working on smallholder agricultural development, story sources and story users were clearly two sides of the same coin. A discussion we had even before we started developing the question set. We discussed:.Who will be asked to look at patterns and stories? I.e. where do you want to stimulate the kind of reflection that story pattern analysis can provoke?.How do you build in regular reflection that you can feed by showing how story patterns shift? Is it an annual staff meeting, a bi-annual workshop of companies and farmers, a regular policy forum, etc?.Even a small set of 12 or 13 questions generates a wide range of possibly interesting patterns. As there is never enough time to look at them all, which patterns are the best ones ?Each process has its own sticky points. In the GlobalGiving work, the third challenge needs more work. How do we make GlobalGiving s partner organisations curious about what the stories reveal? In the water work, we really have Rosetta Stone Japanese to think hard to get to a feasible and affordable system to ensure stories come in regularly.
